Costs and liabilities of nuclear energy

An often heard argument by the proponents of nuclear energy is that it is a relatively cheap energy source. However, a special framework is in place for nuclear plant manufacturers that absolves them of any liabilities in case of a major accident. Doing otherwise could be too costly to the manufacturers. Such considerations were part of the US-India nuclear deal.
